about

The Good Fight EP chronicles the "life and times" of an American outlaw in the old west. It is the product of late night viewing of movies such as Blazing Saddles and a few weeks off near Nashville, Tennessee. Inspired by western television and the rolling hills of middle Tennessee, this collection of five songs were written over the course of two nights and recorded within a week in August 2011. Like a classic, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Track Name: Welcome Home
Coming home from a month away,
Her perfume will soak my shirt in one more day,
One more long day.
Fist full of letters, I step off the train.
I'm searching for her pretty brown hair,
But she ain't here.

Something must be wrong, something is definitely wrong.

When I find her in town, I meet her with a kiss.
She says "Boy, I think it's best that you head out west. The people out here don't take kind to you."
And well, you were gone, he was here.
It felt like you were gone for a whole damn year,
And He's a blacksmith. He can hold his own.

And He doesn't have a temper, like somebody else I know.
Well, He doesn't have a temper, like somebody else I know.

She thinks that I should head out west,
Shoulda shot a bullet straight through my chest.
I'm gonna find that boy of hers,
I'm gonna find that boy of hers,
I'm gonna find that boy of hers,
And show him just how bad this hurts.
Track Name: I'll Get By
Shots have been fired, a couple men down.
Ain't a doubt in my mind, I'm leavin' this town tonight.
Took a shot at his feet, taught the fucker to dance.
That stupid bastard, don't know who he's messing with.

I always get by, by the skin of my teeth
I always get by, by the skin of my teeth

Crushed their heads with the piano bench,
Almost as hard as the shots that we lined it with, just moments before.
The stale hint of whores and cigarettes,
Has me finished here, and headed out the door.

I always get by, by the skin of my teeth
I always get by, by the skin of my teeth
I always get by, by the skin of my teeth
I always get by, by the skin of my teeth
Track Name: Freedom
Excuse me, miss. Could you spare a second of your time?
I been watchin' you, from across the room,
And we locked eyes, about a dozen times.
I couldn't help but notice you, noticing me, as I noticed you.
So I figured I'd march on over here, find out what perfume you wear.
'Cause the truth is my days as a free man are numbered,
And you look like you'd make the perfect lover.

She said "Boy you best be kidding. Do you know who I am?"
I'm the daughter of the sheriff, and I'm married to a stupid man.
Did anybody tell you that freedom ain't really free?
Who the hell made it plain that a rebel like you could ever have a chance with someone like me, with a pretty girl like me?

Looks like I'm ending up alone, again.
Track Name: It's The Whiskey Talking
Outside it's raining whiskey,
There ain't no good girl back home to miss me.
Ain't got one single thing left to my name.
I've lost everything, that a man can loose.
That includes dignity, and the ability to choose.

So, as I make my way across this foreign town,
The people here are so damn surprised that I'm still even around.
As I drown myself in alcohol, without a thought, I talk to God.
And now I'm spewin' things, that no one understands.

And I'll take my drama out into the street.
Ain't nobody here wanna look at me.
Steal a bottle of whiskey.
The bartender, he don't want to mess with me.
So, just like that, I am free.

Free, as I'll ever be.
Lonely, lonely, lonely.
Free, as the wind blowin' through the trees.
Lonely, like the tree once it's lost it's leaves.
You are the winter, I don't have a sweater.
But I'm free.
Track Name: The Good Fight
I'm at war with myself, at least for tonight.
I'm quick on the trigger, and sharp as a knife.
But don't you dare call me out.
I will always, always make it count.

When I was a young boy,
My father would tell me stories.

He said:
Losers never win, lovers never lie.
Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
And sometimes you fight for what you believe is right.
And sometimes you fight, to save somebodies life.
And the good man, is always the one who fights the good fight.

Yeah, Losers never win, lovers never lie.
Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
And the good man, is always the one who fights the good fight.
'Cause sometimes you fight for what you believe is right.
And sometimes you fight, to save somebodies life.
And sometimes you fight just so that you can survive.
'Cause for some reason, you think that you need to be alive.
Well, for quite some time, I believed in life.

Yeah, losers never win, lovers always lie.
Heroes are forgotten, and someday we all die.
Losers, they always win.
Lovers, they always lie. They lie.
Heroes are forgotten, and someday you will die.
But at least I know, that I fought the good fight.
Yeah, Dad, you were right.

At least I know that I fought the good fight.
Even if it cost me my life, I fought the good fight.
The good fight, the good fight.
Make sure you know that you fought the good fight, the good fight.
Make sure that you know that you fought the good fight.

Well, I fought for what I believed was right,
And it cost me my life, it cost me my life.
I've been fightin', fighting every day.
I fought my entire life away.
Hell, It's my middle name.
But I fought the good fight.

Losers always win, lovers always lie.
Heroes are forgotten, and someday soon you will die.
But at least I know that I fought the good fight.
Fight the good fight, till the day you die.
